FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Do I have to pay any fee in order to get students for the summer? No, there is no fees for host companies
- When is the best time to contact Mike’s Agency and ask for students? We advise you to contact us at least 3 months before the requested start date; we want to make sure we find the right candidates for your business
- Do I need to conduct an interview with the students? You can either let Mike’s Agency select the students in consistency with your needs or interview them face-to-face, over phone or video conference with Skype.
- Will I be responsible for housing, meals and transportation? No, but it is advisable to make the job offer more attractive (housing provided at some cost, special price for meals within your company , free shuttle to workplace etc) so that more students will want to work for you (let the best win!) and the more successful the program experience will be overall.
- What is the pay scale for Work and Travel participants? Students must be paid the prevailing wage for the position, and it must be the same as the wage paid to U.S. workers in comparable positions.
- Can I have the same J1 students every season? Yes, as long as they qualify for the program (as long as they are full time students)
- What’s the visa acceptance percentage? What happens to the participants who are denied the visa? No one ever guarantees the visa. In Romania the visa acceptance percentage is a very good one, around 96% every year.
- What are the most commonly requested J1 positions? Moving companies positions like: movers, packers; hospitality positions like: waiters, front desk agents, hostesses, cooks, dishwashers, housekeepers, groundskeepers, shop assistants, lifeguards, amusement park workers, game attendants, valet attendants, fish processors etc
- Are there any positions that are not allowed in this program? According to US legislation, participants cannot work as domestic help (housekeepers, etc.) in American homes. Nor can they work in positions that require them to invest their own money for inventory, such as door-to-door sales. Participants cannot work in jobs that require them to provide patient care.
